U.S. Supreme Court Hears TX Redistricting Arguments
The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in a few cases on Monday, including one from Texas that pits voter rights against state rights.
FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern has details from Washington:
Texas has four new Congressional districts, but the redrawn Congressional map approved by the Republican-controlled Legislature was challenged by Democratic and minority groups.
(Garcia) “Texas has a history, a shameful, disgraceful history of discrimination against Latinos for over 150 years.”
Attorney Domingo Garcia argues the Texas map overlooks minority population growth. A federal panel of judges agreed, and redid the redistricting effort. The Texas Attorney General says the court’s map violates state rights, appealing to the Supreme Court.
