The long-simmering tension over Iran's nuclear program is now bubbling-up into verbal sniping over a strategic waterway and Iran's threat to disrupt it. The Pentagon says that will not be tolerated.

Iranian officials threatening (Iranian audio) to block the Strait of Hormuz, through which more than dozen oil supertankers need to pass each day. Iran's Vice-President saying a blockade would be in retaliation for any embargo by the West of Iranian oil exports. But the U.S. Fifth Fleet in the region today saying it would not tolerate such action. A spokeswoman saying the U.S. Navy is ready to counter malevolent actions to protect freedom for vessels there.
