Army Review Finds Tens of Thousands of Graves at Arlington Misidentified or Misplaced
A meticulous Army review of Arlington National Cemetery finds tens of thousands of grave markers may need replacing or additional information.
FOX News Radio’s Chris Stanley has the story:
After reports last year of misidentified or misplaced graves at Arlington National Cemetery, Congress ordered a review. Now the Army — after checking each of the nearly 260,000 headstones or other coverings — has determined that perhaps 64,000 of them — about one in four — have potential discrepancies, between what’s on the headstone and what’s in the paperwork. Paperwork — that in some cases — dates back to the Civil War — when Arlington was established. One big surprise from the review: that in the early 20th century, the names of wives weren’t included on gravestones when they were buried with their husbands. That will be rectified.
