Operation Santa Claus Letters Are Piling Up

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season might mean we forget those who are less fortunate.

But, as FOX News Radio’s Jennifer Keiper explains, the post office is reminded when it receives letters addressed to Santa:

It’s called “Operation Santa” and the program at Chicago’s main post office is in its final days for the season:

Reynolds: “So, there’s still time for folks to come on in and take a look at a couple of letters and help someone else’s holiday be a little brighter.”

Some 15,000 letters have been received, but only 1,200 have been answered. Post Office Spokesman Mark Reynolds says you may think the letters that pile up are written by children but:

Reynolds: “Lots of folks just really looking for the basics; kids writing that their moms and dads lost their jobs. I’m seeing more fathers write Santa this year because they’re not able to provide for their families.”

The “Operation Santa” program in New York City is the largest in the country with more than 500,000 letters received every year.
