Out In The Cold: Fewer Federal Funds Means Less Heat For Families

Winters in the Northeast can be long, and the upcoming season could feel even colder, as families that normal get heating help from the government face being left out in the cold.

FOX News Radio’s Pam Puso reports:

As the temperature drops, thermostats could be set lower as thousands of people who rely on heating assistance deal with fewer federal dollars.  Congress is considering cutting more than $1 billion from a home heating aid fund as the price of oil heat rises.

Several Northeast states have already reduced benefits.  In Maine, one of the coldest states, the average benefit has been slashed by about $500, and in New Hampshire, eligibility requirements have been tightened.
