Whether you’re tired or well rested, new research suggests that your genes may be what determines how much sleep you actually need.

If you keep having a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, your genes may be to blame. Researchers have found that genes may be responsible for the amount of sleep we need. Scientists in Germany discovered that people with two copies of the gene ABCC9 required as little as four hours of sleep per night, while those who didn’t have the gene needed more z’s to feel rested and function properly during the day.
