“In God We Trust” Here to Stay
The American public can rest assured that “In God We Trust” is in fact the official motto of the United States. It’s in on our money, and Congress has affirmed it’s here to stay.
FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern reports:
The phrase “In God We Trust” first gained that title in 1956, but House Republicans contended that actions by “unelected bureaucrats” have undermined the slogan’s standing.
The resolution would encourage more government buildings to inscribe the phrase on their walls.
Introduced by Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., the resolution was considered under an expedited floor procedure that required a two-thirds majority for passage. It passed 396 to 9. Two members voted present.
Voting no: Reps. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Judy Chu (D-CA), Pete Stark (D-CA), Bobby Scott (D-VA), Mike Honda (D-CA), Hank Johnson (D-GA), Gary Ackerman (D-NY), Justin Amash (R-MI) and Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO).
Voting present: Reps. Mel Watt (D-NC) and Keith Ellison (D-MN).
