Housecall For Health: Mosquitos & Disease

Scientists are turning to insects in an effort to help fight diseases.

FOX’s Colleen Cappon has more in today’s “Housecall For Health”:

Health researchers have developed a new type of mosquito in a risky attempt to end mosquito-bourne illnesses like Dengue Fever.  The trial, conducted on Grand Cayman Island, released more than three million male mosquitos that were genetically altered to be sterile.  So when they breed with other females, the defect was passed on, triggering a population collapse. Scientists saw an eighty percent reduction in the target area.
