Can A Diet Actually Cause Weight Gain?

New research shows that trying a diet to shed unwanted pounds can actually set off a chain of events that can lead to weight gain.

FOX News Radio’s Bill Vitka reports:

You can take it off, but you can’t keep it off.  Once we slim down there’s a reason why we pack it back on.  And as many as eight out of ten of us do bulk-up after a diet.  The why of it, is metabolism.  When we lose weight our metabolism slows down and there’s a hormonal change, appetite spikes.  A study in the New England Journal of Medicine says hunger-related hormones can remain at altered, elevated levels for at least a year; telling you to eat, and eat, and eat thwarting the best of intentions.
