Cancer Change: Panel Cuts Screening Recommendations Again
A federal panel that sets recommendations for cancer screenings is urging a reduction in testing for another form of cancer: cervical cancer.
FOX News Radio’s Dave Anthony reports:
Women 21-65 should NOT get an annual pap smear. Instead, new guidelines, out Wednesday, say they should be screened for cervical cancer every three years.
The U.S. Preventative Task Force says more tests lead to false positives, some of the same logic that led to controversial recommendations for women to get mammograms every two years starting at 50, instead of annually beginning at 40, like the American Cancer Society still advises. Last week, the Task Force said men shouldn’t get PSA blood tests for prostate cancer.
