FOX in the Fast Lane: Johnson Jumps Back in the Race

So much for doubting Jimmie Johnson.  He sat 10th after 2 races in the Chase, and the chances of the five-time defending champ picking up another Sprint Cup looked slim.  Those hopes got a big boost on Sunday, however, with a dominating win where he led more than 200 laps.

FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig has more in this “FOX in the Fast Lane”:

Jimmie Johnson jumped out front early in the Hollywood Casino 400, and held on through a green-white-checkered finish for the victory at Kansas, rebounding from his rough start to the Chase…

“Got beat in some cases, and we beat ourselves in others.  And today, we went out there and did a great job and got this Lowe’s Chevrolet to Victory Lane.”

The win moves the #48 within four points of Chase leader Carl Edwards, who finished fifth on Sunday.  So how ’bout that six-peat?

“We’re doing the right things, you just don’t know.  Sure, this is a huge, huge step in the right direction.”

…Johnson speaking with ESPN in Victory Lane.  Kasey Kahne finished second.  He’s led non-Chase drivers, finishing in the top 5 each of the last two weeks.  Brad Keselowski and Matt Kenseth round out the top 5.

Edwards holds a 1-point lead on Kevin Harvick leading into Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte.
