Housecall For Health: Trauma Travel Time
If you suffer from a life-threatening injury, you will need a trauma center. But getting to one quickly may not be easy.
FOX news radio’s Kirstin McNary reports in today’s “Housecall for Health”:
A quarter of the U.S. population now has to travel farther to get to the nearest hospital trauma center. Over the past 20 years, hundreds of trauma centers have been shut down due to financial problems, according to a study in the journal ‘Health Affairs’. Chances of survival are highest if trauma victims get treatment within an hour of injury, so each extra minute spent traveling could be costly. The study indicates a need for states and regions to work together in order to decrease travel time.
