Palestinian Leader Mahmoud Abbas has formally submitted his request to the United Nations for acceptance as a member state.  It's a plan the U.S. has vowed to veto at the Security Council, and one that drew a challenge from the Israeli Prime Minister.

Both Palestinian and Israeli leadership took turns stating their case for and against, respectively, Palestinian Statehood in the U.N.
