A 25-year-old student has made a scientific breakthrough that could help put an end to breast cancer.

Luke Piggott, from Cardiff University in Wales, discovered a way to switch off breast cancer stem cells' drug resistance.  Cancer stem cells are a small portion of the cells in tumors, but are believed to be responsible for cancer growth.

In lab experiments, the method reduced secondary tumors by 98%, and repeat treatments killed cancer stem cells if they reappeared.
