FOX in the Fast Lane: Gordon’s Historic Win
Tropical Storm Lee postponed the race for two days, but for one NASCAR racer chasing his place on the sport’s all-time winners list, two days was a short wait.
FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig recaps the Advocare 500 in this “FOX in the Fast Lane”:
His spot in the Chase was already assured, but Jeff Gordon decided to make a statement, picking up career win number 85 in the rain-delayed Advocare 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway…
“I don’t care if it’s Sunday, or Monday, or Tuesday…you know, NASCAR fans coming out like this to support us and have a race like this…man, that’s awesome!”
Gordon’s now the third-winningest driver in Cup Series history after his third win of the year. Jimmie Johnson finished second, solidifying his spot atop the Sprint Cup standings, but the five-time-running Cup champ now has a clear contender to watch out for in Gordon.
Saturday’s the last chance to lock in a spot in the Chase, and Tony Stewart helped his cause with a 3rd-place finish. He sits 10th with a 21-point cushion on Brad Keselowski, but has zero wins. Stewart and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. are the only 2 in the top 10 NOT to clinch a spot in the Chase already. Keselowski and Denny Hamlin hold the wild card spots.
