You may have been ordered to have a heart scan, but is it really necessary?

Do you need a heart scan? 

The procedure known as a coronary angiography costs several thousand dollars with possible side effects.  A study led by researchers at Duke University finds hospitals have a wide variety of standards for determining who is eligible for a heart scan. The researchers found at some hospitals fewer than one in four patients who got heart scans actually had heart disease.

It’s possibly a symptom that the procedure is over-prescribed.
