New guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics say healthy children and teen athletes are safe to work out, as long as certain precautions are taken. The new policy says athletes should start out with light exercises and gradually build up, and stay hydrated throughout practice.
Coaches should always have an emergency plan in place and educate children on the signs of heat stress.
