In honor of the holiday, we take you on a journey across the country to look at some of the ways the country celebrates the day and all things America.

We start our journey in Coney Island, New York, with an event as American as apple pie: the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Before the crowds and gastrically-primed eaters arrive, FOX News Radio's Todd Starnes looks at the preparations...

Also in New York, a special celebration is planned for one of the most patriotic symbols of America, who is also celebrating a special birthday this year.

Speaking of Battery Park, the site plays a significant role in American history---protecting the country's largest city from fears that the English would attempt to reclaim the U.S.  And ever since forming in the 1790's, a special company from the NY State Militia (still in existence today) has carried out tradition that now tips a cap to the past.

On the day the U.S. celebrates the independence gained from England...a statue saluting U.S. President Ronald Reagan is unveiled in London.

-3 Presidents have died on July 4th.  Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on 7/4/1826.  James Monroe died 7/4/1831.

-1 President was born on July 4th.  Calvin Coolidge was born in Plymouth, Vermont on 7/4/1872.

-1 First Child was born on July 4th.  Malia Obama was born on 7/4/1998.

While they're stuffing their faces on the East Coast, they're doing quite the opposite out on the West Coast.
