Housecall for Health: Alarming Medical Findings

Sometimes a medical finding sounds more alarming than it actually is.

A new study finds a sharp increase in the rate of prostate cancer among members of the U.S. Air Force on active duty…compared to 20 years ago.

While that sounds alarming, the study in the “Journal of Urology” finds the increase is not due to an increased exposure to cancer-causing substances.  Rather, almost the entire increase is to more – and better – screening for the disease.

In many cases, the cancer was caught early, and treated successfully.
