Folks in the southeast are assessing the damage after deadly tornadoes hit the area over the weekend. 62 twisters were reported in North Carolina alone... and just over the border in Norfolk, VA the damage was extensive.

North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue has declared a state of emergency in order to get the aid that the state needs to continue their clean-up efforts.

The small community of Colerain, NC was hit hard by the storm. Resident Jean Burkett tells Fox News her own house was spared by the storm...but a neighbor was not so lucky.

The tornadoes and intense winds left behind a trail of destruction -- cutting a path through Sanford and Wake Counties in North Carolina -- damaging buildings and downing power lines.

It's another day of cleanup and recovery in North Carolina -- as small towns and the state's second largest city dig out from killer tornadoes.
