A former Detroit Mayor is heading to prison on corruption charges.

FOX News Radio’s Jennifer Keiper has the story:

Kwame Kilpatrick says he really messed up and apologizes to the citizens of Detroit. The former Mayor was found guilty of racketeering conspiracy, extortion and bribery for steering city contracts to his friend Bobby Ferguson. The judge, giving him 28 years in prison, says the former Mayor set into motion corrupt and corrosive systems and has a track record that doesn’t lend itself to reform.

    U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade says:

McQuade: “It sends a powerful message, I think, that people of Detroit will not tolerate this kind of abuse of the public trust.”
