Pastors and Megachurches — Who Needs Them?

Pastor Franklin

What should the role of a pastor be in modern day society?

Are pastors closer to God than you and me?

And…if religion is a one -to-one relationship with God, then do we really need a pastor? Because if two is company, then could three be a crowd?

Our guest today is Pastor Jentezen Franklin of Free Chapel, with 3 locations in Georgia, and California.

According to Outreach Magazine, the Free Chapel is in the top 25 churches in terms of attendance in the whole nation.

Pastor Franklin is also a New York Times bestselling author, and his media ministry, The Kingdom Connection, reaches an audience of millions in 120 countries.

I enjoyed listening to the interview… Since I got Dish network and found Pastor Franklin on it… I listen for 1/2 hr every Sunday before I leave for my own church service.
Since the interviewer said his own mother-in-law thinks that he needs prayer, I think that all of us should join in to pray for Vipp Jaswal… The Lord knows his needs, even if we do not.

REALLY???? 256 comments? How many of these folks are members of your church, pastor? Makes me wonder if anyone will even read these comments since they're all "rah, rah, Pastor!"

Strange to me how so many pastors are called to preach at death's door. Spiritual leadership, I agree with … until they cannot be challenged. When pastors become the "voice of God" with no questions asked, there's a problem. We should be able to read the Bible and interpret for ourselves, seek for ourselves, and not have our lives hinged upon every word spoken in the pulpit. God can speak to all of us, not just a preacher. Wouldn't you agree, pastor?

How do you explain Pastor Robin Whitley, a BORN AGAIN pastor, a strong woman of faith in God who was also interviewed here on the Vipp Jaswal report in December 2012, a woman born in the Bible belt, raised as a Southern Baptist, and who prayed without ceasing for God to take away her homosexuality? How do you explain that? A woman who loves God with all her heart, and has been blessed by the Lord over and over, how do you explain that away? The scriptures are open to interpretation and God speaks to us all. I refuse to believe God will close the doors of Heaven to those who love and serve Him, no matter their sexual orientation. As a heterosexual Christian, I think it's time we practice the love of God we profess. And thank God we women no longer have to cut our hair or remain in the background of the church.

I like the humble spirit Jentezen seems to possess. But each of us should know church shouldn’t hurt. And yet, it often does. Christianity MUST exist BEYOND the walls of the church. God is definitely sovereign and He honors faith WHEREVER He finds it. Even in our own livingrooms.

Pastor … I would love to sit down with you someday. But I doubt you would make time for me. Which is why, if you’ll excuse me, I refuse to believe all of the 256 comments in this post.

The problem with accountability, most megachurch pastors exist without it. It becomes a nightmare waiting to happen for many sitting in the pews. Pastor Franklin, it seems, has accountability, and that's a good thing. But the fact is, "perfect" pastors are ruling their congregations with an iron fist with no accountability all over this country. True, you can't please everyone. None of us can. Except that too many are being hurt by pastors than we would like to admit, which in turn causes a massive turning away from faith altogether.

I moved to GA almost 2 yrs. ago and was desperate to find a church and Pastor with the whole package. I LOVE praise and worship and fellowship with other people but what I desired was true wisdom. My spirit life was starved and I struggled to understand why. Jentezen's sermons ALWAYS send me away feeling that my spirit has been fed and my understanding expanded. He is truly an inspirational man of God and as a member of Free Chapel I have the privilege to see him be a "real person." I love his genuine love and concern for his congregation and people all around the world! God bless you Pastor Franklin for all you allow God to do through you! Great interview!

Amazing man of God. I still remember the first message I ever how impacting he was to me. I was getting ready to leave my house and was mesmerized by his teaching full of the power of the Holy Spirit. God bless him and continue to use him to reach many.
