Former NHL Great Jeremy Roenick: Today’s Everybody Gets A Trophy Mentality Sets Kids Up For Disaster

“I hate it. It drives me nuts. The reason why everybody is so softer is because everything is being given to them. They don’t have to earn it. Nowadays when kids are given it to them, what’s the incentive to go out and work hard and withstand the punishments in order to earn that? You are setting your kid up for disaster. There is no question about it, in the entitlement day and age and kids are given things and don’t have to understand what winning and losing is, we’re in trouble.”

—Jeremy Roenick on why the ‘everybody gets a trophy’ mentality makes kids today softer

U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer and author of “Shoot First, Pass Later: My Life, No Filter”, Jeremy Roenick, joined Kilmeade & Friends in studio to talk about his NHL career, playing in the Olympics and why feels the “everybody gets a trophy” mentality is taking away the incentive for kids to work hard to achieve success.
