Legendary Sports Announcer Al Michaels Discusses His Career
Legendary sportscaster Al Michaels joined Brian to discuss his book “You Can’t Make This Up-Miracles, Memories & the Perfect Marriage of Sports & Television”. Michaels told Brian that he is very happy that the fans are enjoying the book and re-living the great sports memories. Michaels said that his interest in sports started at an early age, when his father took him to Ebbets Field in Brooklyn to watch the Dodgers. Growing up, one of Michaels favorite announcers was the legendary Curt Gowdy. Michaels shared with Brian the advice his idol and mentor gave him that he still remembers to this day. Gowdy told Michaels, “Hey kid, never get jaded!”
When asked about his famous call at the 1980 Olympics (“Do you believe in miracles? Yes!”) when Team USA upset the Soviets in hockey, Michaels told Brian that after hearing his famous call so many times over the years, he now listens to the call in the third person and becomes a fan again. Michaels said he loves when fans come up to him and to tell him where they were when he made that famous call.
