TANNER COLBY, author of Some of My Best Friends Are Black: The Strange Story of Integration in America, talked to Brian about his new book. He said he got the idea to write a book about integration during the 2008 Presidential election, but his editors were skeptical of the idea since he was predominantly known for writing biographies of comedians. He said to his editors, “If I’m a white guy writing about race in America, ignorance is really the only qualification I need.” And they signed off on it.
