KILMEADE KONDENSED – 6/4/2013

BRIAN’S OPENING THOUGHTS

Brian on the IRS scandal: I thought we were going through a situation where we were cutting the budget.  We’re asking the military to stop doing F-16 flights.  We’re pulling back air traffic control people.  We’re telling everybody that we don’t have the money for this and that, while the IRS hands out huge bonuses? It’s incredible!

HOUR ONE

Karl RoveKarl Rove, former Deputy Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush, talked to Brian about whether there is a chance the administration is looking to bury us in so many scandals that we end up not paying attention to any of them.  Rove said that this is definitely a possibility.

He went on to exclaim that he thinks the Holder controversy is particularly interesting: “This Deputy Assistant Attorney General who responded basically said, in essence, ‘Don’t believe what we said in the document that we submitted to the judge, TO THE THIRD JUDGE…  that James Rosen of FOX News was a member of a criminal conspiracy and had violated the law and was a flight risk, because we never really intended to prosecute him.”

Hank SteinbergHank Steinberg, creator of the hit TV series Without a Trace, stopped by to talk about his new novel, Out of Range. Steinberg said that he got the idea for the novel when his wife called him from her car needing directions one night.  He explained that she told him she was going to pull over on the side of the freeway and call him back in five minutes once she pulled the car over.  “My ‘Without a Trace,’ paranoid, brain started kicking in, and then I started thinking to myself, ‘What happens if she doesn’t call back?’He said that although his wife called back a minute later, the idea stuck with him and he went from there with the novel.

HOUR TWO

FOX News’ National Security Correspondent Jennifer Griffin talked to Brian about her conversations with Senator John McCain and Senator Lindsey Graham about what is happening in Syria. “It’s a complicated issue,” Griffin said. She also weighed in on unannounced visit to Syria last week.  “The problem is his visit demonstrated how difficult it is to know who to support there and how the opposition has fragmented because some of those he was photographed with were allegedly wanted for kidnapping charges,” Griffin explained.

HOUR THREE

Ed Klein, author of The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House, talked to Brian about the updates he made to the paperback version of his book.  “We decided to really revise the paperback because so much has happened; and I think the top of the news in the paperback is my revelation that there was a deal between Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton on the one hand and Obama on the other for Clinton to support Obama’s reelection campaign in return for Clinton getting something that he very much wanted, which was OBAMA’S ENDORSEMENT OF HILLARY IN 2016,” Klein explained.
