BRIAN’S OPENING THOUGHTS
Brian breaks down the budget that President Obama submitted this morning, and doesn’t think it has much of a chance for passing. He also looks into the latest news coming out of North Korea, and thinks the situation is tenser than ever.
HOUR ONE
National Security Correspondent for the New York Times and author of The Way of the Knife: The CIA, a Secret Army, and a War at the Ends of the Earth, Mark Mazzetti, talked to Brian about the country’s drone program, and how it has affected al-Qaeda. “There’s no question that the drone strikes in the last few years have killed off the senior leader, the top leadership of al-Qaeda,” Mazzetti said. He went onto explain that al-Qaeda as it used to be on 9/11/2001 no longer exists, and credits the drone strikes for this accomplishment.

Peter Morici, Economist and Professor at the Smith School of Business, weighed in on the budget that Obama submitted his morning. “A lot of these taxes sound very attractive to the left… but I don’t really give them much prospect for passing. 30 percent’s an awfully big bite.” Morici said. He went on to explain that Obama wants people that are “dependent on the system,” because “that makes them good targets for democratic candidates.”

HOUR TWO
Dennis Kneale, Senior Media and Technology Correspondent for the FOX Business Network, gave Brian an update on what to listen for as we receive more information about the President’s budget that he released this morning at 6AM.
He also talked about the dinner Obama is having tonight with Republican leaders. “I don’t know how sincere the president is on this really,” Kneale said, “And the fact that he’s meeting with Republicans finally, I love; but you’re not meeting with the leaders you’re supposed to negotiate with. You’re meeting with rank and file. You’re hoping to undercut Republican leadership by forming your own bond these lower level guys.”

HOUR THREE
Arthur Herman, historian and author of Freedom’s Forge, talked to Brian about the situation in North Korea. Although he is doubtful that war will ever break out, he said that there are real dangers to watch out for: “The real danger we got [sic] right now, Brian, is that if we’re going to go ahead with one of these test firings. If this test firing goes a little bit awry, or if the South Koreans react too quickly and think it actually is, perhaps, a genuine attack, then you can sort of see things escalate very fast and it would be very hard for us to stay out.”
America’s Newsroom co-host Martha MacCallum stopped by and talked about Obama’s budget proposal and whether or not the President is taking steps in the right direction by hosting luncheons and dinners for Republican leaders. The duo also talked about gun control and why none of the legislation the President is trying to pass would have done anything to stop the horrific tragedy in Newtown from occurring.
