Co-host of “Fox & Friends Weekend” Rachel Campos-Duffy joins Fox Across America With guest host Griff Jenkins to give her take on the Democratic lawmakers who refused to stand during seemingly unifying moments at President Trump’s State of the Union address.
“You hear these politicians talk so much about unity, and this was a moment that could have been, that was unifying, but, you know, the fact that they chose not to come and be part of that unifying moment. But, you know, that decision did not come to the State of the Union, very similar to the same decision that many of them may remember in 2016, when President Trump was elected, how many people refused to show up to his inauguration. And I was also angry about that, because I had the privilege of being able to go to the inauguration of Barack Obama. And you know Griff, I don’t like cold weather. And I hate being cold. He knows that because he sits next to my heater every single weekend. And sometimes his own legs get burned because the seat’s so high. I took all those kids in the freezing cold to sit at Barack Obama. And you know, the only thing I like less than cold weather is Barack Obama, but I went. I went with all those kids and sat in the cold and bundled them up and took care of them while they were complaining because it was so cold because I was like, this is an American moment. Doesn’t matter if it’s Barack Obama. He was the president of the United States. And I showed respect for the fact that I was one of the few people that had the privilege of going there. And I took my kids to that moment. And so then, you know, four years later, when President Trump is elected and these members of Congress don’t have enough respect for that office to show up in this peaceful transfer power, it’s the same thing. And you know what? And I’m going to give a little bit of pushback to the Republican script, because I was also in the chamber when, you’re probably going to remember his name, Joe Wilson said, you lied. And it was a lie. Barack Obama was lying. We’re still talking about that lie on health care, but that moment was not right. We don’t do that. There has to be some sense of decorum. There has to have some sense of respect for the ceremony, for the event that we’re in, for the country.”
