Max Lugavere, health and science journalist, bestselling author, and director of the documentary “Empty Little Boxes”, tells Brian Kilmeade he is incredibly encouraged by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. being the new head of the Department of Health and Human Services and he might be the most qualified candidate that we’ve had thus far to head up the HHS because of his status as an environmental lawyer. With our problems being environmental, Lugavere believes we need to look at the food environment and our exposure to environmental toxicants. Lugavere thinks we need to take a bull in a China shop approach to our health issues in America. Lugavere says that 73% of the items in your average supermarket are ultra processed foods, which are now being considered as the foundation of the epidemic of non-communicable diseases. Lugavere points out that about two-thirds of the American population is overweight or obese and we are seeing obesity in children, along with adult-onset diabetes in children. With regard to neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s and dementia, Lugavere explained how the obesity epidemic in America has led to the increase of developing Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. With 90% of Americans metabolically ill in one way or another, Lugavere says it is not just our genetics but a combination with our diets and lifestyles that are variables related to what is happening in our environment causing many of our health issues.
