Senator James Lankford (R-OK) discussed the new Senate Majority Leader John Thune. Lankford feels Thune will help get things done fast in the Senate and pointed out that Thune voted with President Trump 91% of the time. When asked about his thoughts on Matt Gaetz nomination for Attorney General, Lankford said the Senate will go through the process with Gaetz as they will so with everyone else. Lankford added, the main thing is giving them a fair hearing as fast as possible. Asked about President Trump using recess appointments, Lankford said it is constitutional but pointed to President Obama using recess appointments until the Supreme Court stepped in saying you can’t just randomly push recess appointments on weekends when congress was not in session on weekends. Senator Lankford, who was the lead negotiator on the Border Security Bill, also explained how the election of Donald Trump will immediately mean half of that bill will not be needed. Lankford believes once Trump assumes office, illegal crossings will drop rapidly, from 4,000 to 500 a day with executive orders.
Plus, Lankford on how being elected Vice Chair of the Senate Republican Conference will help him make sure his constituents in Oklahoma have a voice at the leadership table.
