Retired NYPD inspector Paul Mauro joins Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla to discuss Monday’s horrific mass shooting at a private Christian elementary school in Nashville, and explain why he believes the most productive response to this tragedy would be to put more retired and off-duty officers in schools.
“The harder the target, the more likely somebody is to move along. I mean, I’m just going to confess to you, we did everything we could when I was working counterterrorism to make New York as difficult as possible so that the terrorists would look at it and say, you know what, the heck with this. We’re going to go choose another city. And I don’t want them to choose another city in America, obviously, or anywhere. But, what we just wanted is, New York City was our remit. We just wanted to throw a ring around it. So I do advocate for that. I’d like to see off duty cops. Again, in the sort of context of government spending, these are not big expenses. I mean, what the teachers union spends on ads, we could manage to fund, you know, a cop at the front door or a cop at the back door. In this case, from what I see, that was a long driveway or one street going in to get into the place, a clapboard booth that the car has to go through with a retired cop. And these cops, they miss the mission. I can tell you that as a retired cop. You miss the people and all that. Everybody knows that. But you miss the mission. And the ability, you know, cops want to do this kind of stuff. They want to give back. The money is almost secondary.”
