Paul Mauro: It Appears As Though Britney Griner Was Targeted By The Russian Government
Retired NYPD inspector Paul Mauro joins Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla to explain how recently released WNBA star Britney Griner might have been set up by the Russian government when she was arrested in February on charges alleging she brought vape cartridges containing a small amount of cannabis oil into the country.
“She says that she’s been taking this CBD oil for chronic and acute pain, that she really needs it, since 2020. During that time, she was playing for the team. So she’s gone back and forth to Russia during that time. So if she needs it, she’s going back and forth and she’s been prescribed it, fairly logical that she very well may have been taking it back and forth during that time, aside from this one time. And they happened to stop her just this one time. So one of the things that I think lends that credence is when you look at a 2019 case of a woman from New York who had the same thing happen to her in Russia, the difference was she had 25 times the amount of CBD oil that Griner did, and this woman got a $230 fine and sent home and was charged with mere possession. Griner was charged with smuggling, given nine years in the labor camp. And in fact, the statute I looked it up to get everything confirmed with a Russian speaker, an analyst I know, that the charge in their penal law only carries seven years. Somehow, they bumped it to nine. So it really does look like she was targeted.”
