New York’s newly redrawn 17th District initially leaned Democratic, as Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair and Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney strives to keep his seat in the House. However, in recent weeks Republican candidate Mike Lawler has gained popularity amongst voters in the district, leading to a toss-up race that could be crucial in determining which party will ultimately win the House. Mike Lawler joins the Rundown to discuss how Maloney losing his House seat could be a “monumental blow to Democrats” due to his high-ranking position in the Democratic party, why he believes many traditionally blue seats may flip red this election cycle, and how he plans on spending his final days on the campaign trail.
