Former AG Bill Barr: The DOJ Indicting Trump Would Not Be In The Best Interest Of The Country
Former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr joins Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla to share his analysis about whether the Department of Justice has enough evidence to indict former President Trump over classified documents the FBI seized from his Mar-a-Lago residence last month.
“So what I’ve been saying all along is there are two different questions. One is, does the government have enough evidence that they can indict Joe Sixpack if Joe Sixpack did it, and meet the standards of the federal prosecution standards and say we have enough evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt he violated the law? That’s one question. The next question is, assuming you have that evidence, is it, as an exercise of discretion, wise to pursue a particular indictment? And I think that could be where they decide not to proceed. Because, and someone said this to me today. Well, doesn’t that mean someone’s above the law? And I said, no, it’s not that they’re above the law. It is that we take action in the interest of the country, and in some cases, going after a particular individual is not in the country’s interest. Not because he’s more important than he’s above the law. It’s just that in some cases, the collateral effect of prosecution could hurt the public more than public interest is vindicated by the prosecution.”
Bill also explains to Jimmy why the DOJ under his watch did not take more action to investigate Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop in the weeks leading up to the 2020 presidential election. Listen to the podcast to hear what else he had to say!
