Haste Really Does Make Waste

Kids aren’t growing up anymore with the sayings that came in handy for the generations that preceded them.

Like “Haste makes waste.”

This is SO true.

We are living proof of this right now as our second floor deck is being completely demolished.

Yesterday was a noisy day around the Hughes Home as jack hammers and chisels tore our deck into oblivion.

This insane project was the result of shoddy homebuilding when our house was constructed a few years ago.

Let’s face it, homes are often slapped together faster than a Lego pirate ship and the results are often underwhelming, to say the least.

Oftentimes the haste results in not only waste, but potentially or outright dangerous living conditions.

Now the homebuilder is facing HUGE EXPENSES to rebuild our deck. A deck that could have and SHOULD have been built correctly the FIRST TIME around.

This isn’t rocket science. It’s just a matter of using your brain and realizing that if you rush through anything, you are going to end up doing a lousy job.

I try to teach Haste makes waste to my kids all the time.

Whether it’s rushing through homework, book reports, chores, or any other activity or endeavor, the results usually leave a lot to be desired.

An old standards tune, “Nice and Easy” also comes to mind. “Nice and easy does it, every time.” So, so true.

And a job worth doing is worth doing well.

I wish kids still grew up with such sayings. They sure come in handy. Especially when they are put into practice.
