Mark Messier: Athletes Getting Vaccinated Is “One Of Those Selfless Acts” When You Play On A Team
On Fox Across America with Jimmy Failla, Hockey Hall of Famer Mark Messier talked about his new book No One Wins Alone and the controversy over whether professional athletes should be mandated to get the COVID vaccine if they want to play.
“You never know what underlying health factors some players may or may not have. But ultimately, you’re not getting vaccinated for yourself, you’re getting vaccinated to protect the people around you as well. So it’s another one of those selfless acts that has to be thought about when you’re playing on a team in the league and you always surrender yourself for bigger team or group.”
“There’s choices and consequences. You can make any choice you want, and you just got to deal with whatever the consequences come your way. So I decide whether I want or not to get a vaccine. If I want to play, these are the rules that I have to play by. It’s a big sandbox, and if there are rules, there are things that you have to follow. And if that’s what’s mandated by the league and I want to be a part of the league, that’s what I got to do. Now if I choose not to do that, that’s fine too. It’s your choice.”
