Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN) On Where Negotiations Stand On The Next Round Of COVID Relief
Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) spoke with Fox News Radio’s Guy Benson about where negotiations stand on the next round of COVID relief for unemployed Americans. Senator Braun said,
“So I think there is something we are united around, and that is to not have the incentive to keep you on the unemployment rolls versus coming back to work. So if you recall, back on March 26, I believe the evening was we saw that that six hundred dollar amount due to simplicity is how it was sold, needed to be the same everywhere. I think in a state like Massachusetts, for instance, their normal benefit was around eight hundred bucks add six hundred that’s fourteen hundred dollars a week. So I don’t know what the poor entrepreneurs and business owners are doing there that needed to change. And there are three or four proposals. Ron Johnson and I came up with the one that would be, I think, what most businesses are looking at. Get rid of the competition of, you know, unemployment benefits that are keeping people there as opposed to coming back to their jobs. A few others would be closer to where they’re at. The Dems have held firm that it’s six hundred dollars a week or nothing. And I think that’s starting to break a little. Even though I don’t think it’s going to be done quickly, just from what I’ve observed, that’s not selling very well. We’ve taken a few floor votes that put them on record that they’d either have that or nothing along with the Heroes Act. And when you do what’s called a unanimous consent floor maneuver, it flushes out somebody to object or it becomes law. And I think up until the last time that occurred, which maybe was late last week, makes kept saying we object. We want the Heroes Act.”
