ESPN’s Jeff Passan On The Official Return Of MLB Baseball

ESPN Senior MLB Insider Jeff Passan talked with Fox News Radio’s Guy Benson about the official return of MLB Baseball.Passin said,

“Major League Baseball and the Players Association had been at war over what amounted to like a couple hundred million marginal dollars. And listen, a couple hundred million dollars is not couch change, even for very wealthy people. But the fight that they had over money had gotten to the point of ridiculousness and really delayed the start of any baseball season. And it got to the place where they realized they were not going to have a negotiated agreement. And as per the terms of a March 26 deal outlining a potential season, Rob Manfred, the commissioner of baseball, had the ability to impose a schedule, and that’s exactly what he did. He said to the players that we are going to have a 60 game season and if you sign off on health and safety protocols, you will report to Spring Training 2.0 on July 1st. And they did a little bit of haggling and came to terms on those health and safety protocols. And barring unforeseen circumstances or, heaven forbid, a really bad corona virus outbreak somewhere, teams are going to be gathering on July 1st. And we’re going to see baseball by July 20, 30, 24th.”
