Evening Edition: Jewish Communities on Heightened Alert During Holidays
It is Yom Kippur, and as Jewish communities celebrate they remain on heightened alert following a series of recent hate-fueled incidents targeting Jews in and around houses of worship and community centers. In recent months, a man allegedly attacked a congregant and security guard during Shabbat services at Manhattan’s Central Synagogue, a man was federally charged after allegedly smashing the doors of a synagogue and Jewish Community Center in Albuquerque, and a Jewish center in California was defaced with swastikas and antisemitic graffiti.
FOX’s Eben Brown speaks with Sydney Altfield, CEO of Teach Coalition, a Jewish New Yorker who works directly with Jewish day schools, synagogues and community centers on security planning and advocacy, who talks about the concerns and the measures being taken nationwide to keep them safe during one of the most important periods of religious observance on the Jewish calendar.
