U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy joins Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla to shed light on how advancements in technology will continue to make travel safer and more efficient over the next ten years.
“So what’s happening right now is whether it’s autonomous vehicles, which I’ll come back to, it’s these eVTOLs which are Ubers in the air Or drones that are delivering for Amazon or hot coffee to you in the morning from Google wing, how people and products move is going to radically change over the next, you know, five, ten years. And what we do is we have to make sure we have the right rules in place so the innovation can happen in America. And if it doesn’t happen in America, it doesn’t mean it won’t happen. It’ll happen in places like China. And then amazing technology will come from China and we’ll be using their technology in our vehicles or their technology and our drones or their Ubers in the air to move our people. And the kind of information they can suck off of those systems on the American people, on our economy is profoundly dangerous for national security. And so we’re setting up rules so our innovators can innovate, they can expand, they can grow, they can use their products, all with our backdrop, number one, which is safety. We’ve got to do this safely. But you can’t lock up technology. And so the days maybe of Jimmy driving a taxi, you know, and crazy people around town, part of that might be automated. It’s happening in San Francisco and in Arizona, but you’re going to see more of this. And we lose 40,000 people on our roadways every year. As we get better technology and vehicles, we reduce human error and we keep more people alive. So yeah, this is us setting out a framework of rules that allow these innovators to continue to grow here and make sure that the technology comes from America and not China.”
Jimmy and Secretary Duffy also reminisce about the conversations they used to have in your radio buddy’s office when the two were colleagues at Fox News. Listen to the podcast to hear what else they discussed!
