House Wants Remote Voting for New Parents
Should new parents in Congress be allowed to vote remotely or by proxy?
I’m Tomi Lahren, more next.
This week 9 Republicans joined all House Democrats to support a rule change allowing new parents in congress to vote remotely or by proxy for 12 weeks.
That sounds reasonable, unless you consider that though members don’t have designated maternity or paternity leave, they can take ALL the time away they want and still get paid, by you the taxpayer, and also get roughly 130 days of recess per year.
The catch is, in order for their vote to count, they actually have to be there to cast it.
Is that too much to ask of our elected members of congress who voluntarily ran for office?
Now I understand if it’s a medical emergency, that is the caveat I will accept. But having a baby is a life choice, it’s not a disability or a medical crisis.
Mom and dads all over this country have to make sacrifices and these members of Congress are already working less than the average worker and for an above average wage.
535 people were elected- and are paid- by the people to represent all 335 million of us. Honor your commitment.
