Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins joined Brian Kilmeade to discuss the impact of the trade deficit on farmers and Americans. Rollins pointed to how we went from a zero trade deficit when President Trump left office in 2020 to a $49 billion deficit after President Biden left office. On our agriculture relationship with Canada, Rollins said we had let Canada impose tariffs on our dairy products for too long, which is not okay. Rollins says she has spoken with her counterparts in Canada and Mexico and they understood we all want to do what is best for our country and farmers.
Rollins addressed the soybean deficit with China, believing that we will be able to make up for most of the deficit, if not all of it, with new emerging markets such as India, Thailand and others, which allows us to move our products regardless if we are in a trade war with China. On egg prices, Rollins says the prices have gone down 44% as of this morning but warns that the avian bird flu does not go away overnight and it will take a lot of work to get the avian bird flu under control. Rollins believes the good news is that today and hopefully for the longer term, the price of eggs have come down.
