Marc Beckman, CEO of the award-winning advertising agency DMA United and author of the new book “Some Future Day: How AI Is Going to Change Everything“, spoke to Brian Kilmeade about how the launch of DeepSeek is the latest salvo in the AI wars between America and China. Beckman believes DeepSeek was able to leverage what we have seen with OpenAI’s infrastructure into what they have built. Beckman points to DeepSeek undercutting the market leading to their app skyrocketing to number one on the App Store, leading to more and more Americans having the app on their iPhones, devices, laptops and beyond. This is concerning to Beckman because now DeepSeek will have access to everyone’s data.
On a potential sale of TikTok, Beckman discussed Perplexity AI’s proposal to allow the U.S. Government to own up to 50% of TikTok after it would merge with Perplexity. According to Beckman, this merger would then allow Perplexity access to all of that data on the search piece of TikTok, similar to what Metta is doing across Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, giving Perplexity a big advantage over other search platforms. Beckman believes it is good that President Trump is in office now as we are on the precipice of a golden age in the tech sector that needs American ingenuity to step up, innovate and compete.
