Oklahoma Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin joins Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla to explain why he is fully on board with President Trump’s decision to end diversity, equity and inclusion programs within the federal government.
“I was a kid that was born with a really, really bad speech impediment. I still have a speech impediment, but I really struggled with it until sixth grade. I was born with my hips out, my feet all busted up and I was never supposed to play sports, but I never let it become an excuse. I’m also Native American and my family kind of got forced to go to Oklahoma. That’s why Oklahoma existed. So if we want to talk about disadvantage, what happened to our ancestors, I can go down that road with you, too. The fact is, I challenge myself every single day, and because I live in America, it gave me this opportunity. And it’s the same thing with you. You just got to push yourself every single day and not allow your past to become an excuse and a burden for you to keep from be able to move on. America gives you the opportunity today because if you’re the best near the brightest and you continue to push yourself in whatever field that is, you’re going to be able to achieve. And what President Trump did is he got away from DEI and gave everybody once again, regardless of your race or identity, they gave you an opportunity to succeed on merit base. Wow. That’s America for us.”
Senator Mullin also tells Jimmy about what prompted him to rail against his Democratic colleagues during Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth’s confirmation hearing last week. Listen to the podcast to hear what else they discussed!
