Gordon Chang on Tensions in China, the Philippines, and South Korea: “We Could End Up in Conflict… Before President Trump Takes the Oath of Office”

Gordon Chang, author of the newly released Plan Red: China’s Project to Destroy America and other works like The Coming Collapse of China, joined guest host Harry Hurley on The Guy Benson Show today to discuss why the U.S. should take more control of the Panama Canal to counter China’s growing regional leverage. Chang also addressed how President Biden’s perceived weakness on the global stage has emboldened China, citing their support for Iran’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. Finally, he explained why he believes President Trump must act decisively by imposing tariffs on China early in his second term. Listen to the full interview below!

Chang has this to say on what Trump’s first actions on China should be:

“First of all, go after China’s weak point, which is its economy. So tariffs, which you talked about, I’d be imposing tariffs. And the other thing that I would do would be to stop technology flows to China, as well as making sure that we enforce the Tariff Act of 1930… We can stop fueling the Chinese military machine and that will go a very long way. And it will be a way that I think that the Chinese would find very, very hard, if not impossible, to counter. So although it might be counterintuitive, I would go after their economy, which right now is in a grim shape.”
