Marc Thiessen: Trump Needs To Reach Out to the “Reluctant Trump Voter” in Final Days Before the Election

Marc Thiessen, a columnist at The Washington Post, Fox News contributor, fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, co-host of the podcast What the Hell is Going On: Making Sense of the World, and former chief speechwriter to President George W. Bush and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, joined The Guy Benson Show today to discuss the election landscape with just one week to go, as Kamala Harris intensifies her negative attacks against Trump. Thiessen explained why he believes Harris’ strategy of labeling Trump a “fascist” will likely backfire with swing voters and shared insights on Trump’s confident campaign strategy, which he says signals that the former president feels he’s in the lead. Guy and Thiessen also covered Thiessen’s thoughts on Trump’s need to bolster his outreach to hesitant voters and focus on key swing states as the election approaches. Thiessen had this to say on what he calls the “reluctant Trump voter”:

“I wouldn’t call them swing voters. I call them reluctant Trump voters who need a permission structure to vote for him. They’re just not comfortable with him. And when they when you ask them what they’re concerned about, it’s not abortion. Only 3% say they’re concerned about abortion. It’s not the criminal charges against them. It’s only 3% say that it’s not threats to democracy. Only 7% say that, 43% say it’s character and temperament. It’s honesty, temperament. His you know, the things he says, they just they like his policies. They don’t like him. And so why not tap somebody who feels the same way, who who has decided to vote for Donald Trump? Nikki Haley is the epitome of the reluctant Trump voter who has so much serious concerns about Trump that she ran against him and lost and has now endorsed him. So she’s she’s the perfect person to go to those voters and say, look, right, I understand how you feel, but I and I feel the same way as you do. I have the same concerns you do. But look at the threat Kamala Harris poses and look at the things he did as president.”
