Meta Launches “Teen Accounts”

Meta rolled out a new version of Instagram for teens but will it help?

I’m Tomi Lahren, more next.

Instagram parent company Meta rolled out a new version of the platform for teens.

Teen accounts come with a host of new protections like built-in privacy and parental controls designed to give parents more access and jurisdiction over what their teens are doing and seeing on the app, AND for how long.

The Teen Accounts are automatically private which requires permission to add followers.

In addition, these accounts also have a sleep mode and time limit controls designed to keep teens from endless scrolling and unlimited screen time.

Meta is the first social media company to roll out these features and while it will no doubt cut into time spent on their platform, the company said it’s willing to take the dip to safeguard the health and well-being of young users.

I have a lot of criticisms of Meta, and rightfully so BUT this appears to be a positive and proactive move.

Social media is a powerful tool and it should be treated accordingly.

Parents, the ball is now in your court. Don’t drop it!
