Evening Edition: Bipartisan Support For Tech Regulation Bill
Originally introduced in 2022, the ‘Kids Online Security Act’ (KOSA) was cosponsored by Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) aims to create a “duty of care” which requires companies to take steps to prevent harm while using their products. In this case, social media platforms and other internet sites, would have to do a better job curbing their algorithms that end up targeting children. The bill, which past a cloture vote and now awaits final voting, has been supported by various non-profits and major tech companies but also opposed by certain groups.
FOX’s Gurnal Scott speaks with Jake Denton, research associate in the Tech Policy Center at the Heritage Foundation, who explains what is in the bill and breaks down who supports and opposes it.
