The Republican majority in the House has one less seat after Tuesday’s special election in New York’s 3rd congressional district saw Democrat Tom Suozzi elected to replace former Congressman George Santos. Congressman-elect Souzzi previously lost to Santos in 2022 after serving three terms. Once sworn in, his presence in Congress will bring the balance of power to a slim two-seat Republican majority.
