He’s no longer in prison in Japan, but Navy Lieutenant Ridge Alkonis is still not free. Now he is behind bars in Los Angeles, serving time for a 2021 crash that left two Japanese citizen dead. Alkonis, who was stationed in Japan, says he suffered from acute mountain sickness causing him to lose control of his car before the deadly crash. Now transferred back to America, his frustrated family is asking the Biden Administration to commute his sentence and let him return home.
